We Rise Again! - NAIGHEACHD CUIRT 2022 - Volume 242

“We Rise Again” is the slogan used this year by the Cape Breton Eagles of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League to indicate they plan to successfully return to their winning ways after suffering through several forgettable seasons. They are taking this theme from the popular Cape Breton anthem written by Leon Dubinsky and performed by the Rankin Family - designed to emphasize the fighting spirit of a people who have suffered through adversity but intend to overcome these past hardships.  After three years of Covid-19 restrictions, the Fredericton Society of Saint Andrew plans to “rise again” as we approach our 200th Anniversary in 2025. Established on Saint Andrew’s Day in 1825 our organization has undergone its ups and downs over the years, but we intend to persevere. Introducing the Archival Records of The Fredericton Society of St. Andrew

The Fredericton Society of St. Andrew was founded on St. Andrews Night, November 30 1825, by Scotsmen who had immigrated to Fredericton around the turn of the century. The first President was Peter Fraser, a prominent Fredericton merchant. The Society closely identified itself with the founding of the first Presbyterian church, St. Paul’s, in 1832. Over its nearly 200 years of existence, the Society has made many contributions to the life of Fredericton. It supported the Victoria Public Hospital establishment and expansion, provided a scholarship fund to University of New Brunswick, and erected a memorial to Robert Burns in 1906.  Archival documents safeguarded in the New Brunswick Provincial Archives include the Constitutions and By-laws of the Fredericton Society of St. Andrew, and dates from 1839 to 1981.
